Building Relationships, Improving Outcomes

A strong relationship between tutor and student is a cornerstone of effective high-impact tutoring. That is why every student in a Littera tutoring program is provided with a caring, vetted, and trained tutor who will stay with that student for the duration of the program.

Connections through Consistency

We know that students learn best when paired with the same tutor for each session. At Littera we prioritize keeping students with a consistent tutor and pride ourselves on our high consistency rate. Through repeated interactions, our students build connections with their tutor. This relationship has been shown to lead to accelerated skill progression and even has an impact on overall student attendance.

“Littera’s tutors have built positive relationships and provided our students a high level of academic support. The volume of positive feedback we received from parents was further confirmation as to the success of the program.”

Rigorous Hiring & Training Process

Becoming a Littera tutor is a highly selective process, with less than 10% of applicants accepted into our corps. Our process ensures student safety as well as a diverse team of tutors, ready to successfully tutor in an online learning environment.

Professional Development and Ongoing Support

To ensure quality, tutors are observed regularly. Tutors receive customized professional development from their manager and get to hear directly from students through post-session feedback.

In what ways has virtual tutoring influenced your teaching style?

“Individual and small group instruction has allowed me to focus on each student in a way that is difficult in a classroom of 25 or 30 students. I think the students can sense this extra connection and feel like they are being listened to.”

– David N, Algebra 1

How do you believe high-impact tutoring has positively affected students?

Students are not only gaining in their academic skills, but they also have a supportive adult role model in their lives with whom they can trust and communicate with. Tutors are able to address students’ needs in one-on-one and small group sessions, and they are able to tailor the instruction to align with students’ interests in ways that can motivate students to learn and to improve their skills.

– Amanda E, Reading and Math

How has the Littera Virtual Classroom assisted you in creating a positive learning environment?

I always start all of sessions by drawing a smiley face on the whiteboard. I could not do this without the tools in the Littera Virtual Classroom.”

– Yesenia H, Math

How do you believe high-impact tutoring has positively affected students?

I am able to see the progress my student makes from session to session. Building confidence that they can be a good reader is key to success. I believe in them so that they can believe in themselves.
